pup is failing to resolve dependency for obsolete packages

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.8
  • pirut-1.3.28-20.el5

Issue

  • When trying to update package subscription-manager* its failing with dependency error
subscription-manager-firstboot-0.98.14-1.el5
subscription-manager-0.98.14-1.el5
subscription-manager-gnome-0.98.14-1.el5

subscription-manager-gnome-0.98.16.3-1.el5_8.i386 from rhel-i386-server-5 has depsolving problems
  --> Missing Dependency: subscription-manager = 0.98.16.3-1.el5_8 is needed by package subscription-manager-gnome-0.98.16.3-1.el5_8.i386 (rhel-i386-server-5)

Resolution

  • There was an internal bugzilla filled for the issue but it has been closed as the issue is fixed for all the later release's for rhel 5.

  • As a workaround follow the below mentioned steps :

    • The issue is specifically for rhel v.5.8, to resolve the issue one can upgrade the os to the latest version.
    • If one wish to continue with rhel v.5.8 use command # yum update subscription-manager to update subscription-manager related packages.
