How to use the maven fabric8 plugin in jboss fuse?

Using this plugin, a bundle is deployed to the fuse OSGI container.
Upon close examination, the bundle I deployed is installed as a FAB
FAB is a fuse specific deployment model and is tightly coupled to the Fuse container.
Is there an option to enable Fabric8 plugin to deploy it as a standard bundle instead?

- Red Hat JBoss Fuse 6.1.0
