Why does Root authenitcation request popup when logging into Gnome desktop as any user on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6?
Issue
- When logging into the Gnome desktop as any user of the system a dialog box pops up requesting root password.
-
The text of the dialog box is as follows:
Authentication is required to set the network proxy used for downloading packages An application is attempting to perform an action that requires privileges. Authentication as the super user is required to perform this action. Password for root: Details Role: unknown Action: org.freedesktop.packagekit.system-network-proxy-configure Vendor: The PackageKit Project -
The action field entry always has the same prefix of org.freedesktop.packagekit.* but the suffix changes.
- There is no proxy configured on our network.
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.2
- PackageKit
