Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 guest running on VMware® Virtual Platform hangs while creating snapshots.

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 guest running on VMware® Virtual Platform hangs while cloning.
  • Since kernel version "2.6.32-358.6.2.el6.x86_64" our RHEL-6 machines have become unresponsive during very high loads on our storage. They hang one by one exactly ( with an accuracy to the second ) when the VMware® "create virtual machine snapshot" task starts creating the snapshots of each of them. We create snapshots in groups of 50-70 vm's simultaneously.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
  • kernel-2.6.32-358.11.1.el6
  • VMware® ESXi Virtual Platform
  • VMware® vCenter Server
  • VMware® "vmsync" module
