Issue

  • What driver is needed for Virident flash devices?
  • What driver is needed for EMC XtremSF flash devices?

A Linux kernel module, or device driver, for Virident flash storage devices has not yet been provided under an Open Source license, such as the GPL, to enable Red Hat to distribute it with the Linux Kernel. Therefore, it must be obtained as a third-party driver from the vendor for use in Red Hat Enterprise Linux or Red Hat Enterprise OpenStack Platform.

Resolution

The driver for this device is included within the Virident device binary driver package, which can be downloaded directly from the Virident device support website at http://www.virident.com/support/

While Red Hat is unable to supply these drivers directly, we will fully support the underlying installation on which these drivers are used. Support for third-party applications developed around the Virident device and dedicated driver is not implied.

Please refer to the following for further details on how Red Hat supports third-party software and other support policies:

Additionally, the EMC XtremSF flash PCIE card is identified in lspci output as a Virident device:

87:00.0 FLASH memory: Virident Systems Inc. Virident FlashMAX Drive V2 (rev 01)

EMC drivers for this device appear to be provided by the following packages:

  • kmod-vgc-EMCvPCIeSSD.RHEL5x-1.0.GA-51287.C6.x86_64
  • vgc-utils-1.0.GA-51287.C6.x86_64
