glusterfs logrotate config file overrides defaults in RHEL 6.6 and RHEL 7.1

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • The glusterfs package as provided in RHEL 6.6 and RHEL 7.1 includes a logrotate configuration with improperly-scoped config directives which override logrotate global default settings
  • This will result in keeping all logs for up to 52 weeks instead of the default 4, which could result in unexpected amounts of disk usage in the /var/log directory, possibly filling the filesystem
  • The glusterfs package is a dependency of the qemu-kvm package, so this affects any system running as a KVM hypervisor

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.6

    • glusterfs-3.6.0.28-2.el6 to glusterfs-3.6.0.54-1.el6
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7.1

    • glusterfs-3.6.0.29-2.el7
