CVE-2025-68121
Description
A flaw was found in the crypto/tls component. This vulnerability occurs during Transport Layer Security (TLS) session resumption when certificate authority (CA) settings are modified between the initial and resumed handshakes. An attacker could exploit this to bypass certificate validation, allowing a client or server to establish a connection that should have been rejected. This could lead to an authentication bypass under specific conditions.
Statement
This is a moderate flaw because it only occurs under specific conditions, such as TLS session resumption with runtime changes to certificate authority settings. Exploitation is not straightforward and requires a controlled setup. The impact is limited to certificate validation within the same component and does not affect system availability.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

Red Hat CVSS v3 Score Explanation
This issue does not work in all cases and depends on specific conditions like TLS session resumption and configuration changes during runtime. Because of this, the attack is not straightforward and requires certain setup, so Attack Complexity should be High. Also, the issue stays within the same TLS component and does not impact other components directly, so Scope should be Unchanged. There is no clear impact on availability as well. Based on this, a more accurate CVSS score would be 7.4 (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N).

Technical Impact: Bypass Protection Mechanism; Gain Privileges or Assume Identity
When a certificate is invalid or malicious, it might allow an attacker to spoof a trusted entity by interfering in the communication path between the host and client. The product might connect to a malicious host while believing it is a trusted host, or the product might be deceived into accepting spoofed data that appears to originate from a trusted host.
