The distcheck rule in dist-check.mk in GNU coreutils 5.2.1 through 8.1 allows local users to gain privileges via a symlink attack on a file in a directory tree under /tmp.

Statement

This issue does not affect users using coreutils binary RPMs, or rebuilding source RPMs. Therefore, we do not plan to release updates addressing this flaw on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3, 4 and 5.
