Red Hat CloudForms
Managing private and hybrid clouds requires new management capabilities that need to be tightly integrated to ensure operations efficiency, resource optimization, and high availability.
The underlying complexity and highly dynamic nature of cloud environments require solutions that simplify operations and administration so the focus can be on service delivery—not building, integrating, and maintaining a portfolio of disparate management tools. Enterprises should avoid cloud “tool sprawl,” which requires separate tools for each different environment, platform, and service delivery model.
Red Hat CloudForms provides unified cloud management that enables organizations to rapidly transform their existing virtual infrastructures into highly scalabe, private clouds as well as take advantage of public cloud resources.
Red Hat CloudForms for Private Clouds
For private cloud implementations on Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform, VMware, and/or Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, CloudForms allows organizations to reduce execution time by automating key processes, including self-service provisioning, workflow processes with approvals, capacity and utilization, quota enforcement, intelligent workload placement, and post provisioning operations—giving customers full life-cycle management of supported private-cloud workloads.
Red Hat CloudForms for Public Clouds
Red Hat CloudForms support for Amazon EC2 allows organizations to use Amazon as an extension of their datacenters. It provides provisioning, capacity utilization, and life-cycle management for Amazon workloads, aggregating that information with their enterprise virtual infrastructure landscape into a single, unified management console.
CloudForms supports VMware vSphere, Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform, and Amazon Web Services.
What's New in 3.0
- User-interface changes: Infrastructure and Clouds have been broken into two separate tabs, and you can easily view and manage everything per-platform with aggregated information on the Services tab.
- New support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform: CloudForms 3.0 fills a management gap by providing self-service provisioning, workflow processes with approvals, capacity and utilization, quota enforcement, intelligent workload placement, and post provisioning operations, giving customers full life-cycle management of OpenStack workloads.
- Enhanced support for Amazon Web Services: CloudForms 3.0 now supports the use of Amazon Virtual Private Clouds (VPC), Identify and Access Management (IAM), and Amazon Machine Instances (AMI), in addition to providing policies, role-based access controls, approval workflow, and quota management to govern Amazon usage.
- Provisioning and retirement of multi-tier services: CloudForms 3.0 allows enterprises to easily build and manage services constructed from infrastructure living on different platforms (e.g., database server/VM on VMware, application server/VM on Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, web server/VM on Amazon).
- Improved support for Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization: CloudForms 3.0 now supports provisioning from templates (in addition to ISO and PXE provisioning). This means faster provisioning from a Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization environment.
- We now have CloudForms appliances that run on VMware, Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform, and all have been updated to run on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.4
