JBoss ON Storage Node administration page fails to load with NullPointerException when storage node with an operation mode of INSTALLED or NORMAL has no associated or linked resource

Issue

  • NullPointerException in server log when navigating to Administration -> Storage Nodes
  • Storage Nodes topology gives warning Server returned FAILURE with no error message

  • Error message Unable to fetch storage nodes.

    Detail :    
java.lang.RuntimeException:[1392379990734] javax.ejb.EJBException:java.lang.NullPointerException -> java.lang.NullPointerException:null

  • Server log contains the error:

    ERROR [org.jboss.as.ejb3.invocation] (http-/0.0.0.0:7080-1) JBAS014134: EJB Invocation failed on component StorageNodeManagerBean for method public abstract org.rhq.core.domain.util.PageList org.rhq.enterprise.server.cloud.StorageNodeManagerLocal.getStorageNodeComposites(org.rhq.core.domain.auth.Subject): javax.ejb.EJBException: java.lang.NullPointerException

Environment

  • Red Hat JBoss Operations Network (ON) 3.2
  • JBoss ON storage node has been installed and started
  • JBoss ON server has been installed and started
  • JBoss ON agent, on the storage node host, has been installed and started but is not currently running or able to communicate with the JBoss ON server or the storage node
  • A storage node has an operation mode of INSTALLED or NORMAL but has no associated RHQ Storage Node resource
  • Accessing the JBoss ON Storage Nodes topology administration page
