How to replace an OSD and keep the same configuration when server has unused device(s) and using Ceph Orchestrator

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Ceph Orchestrator when replacing an OSD by default can pick any available device for provisioning the replacement.
    • Additional care must be taken if the server has unused device(s) and current configuration needs to remain consistent.

Environment

  • Ceph Orchestrator
    • During an OSD replacement activity with unused device(s) on the server:
      • Requirement to use drives in the same physical order as when deployed for uniformity.
      • The unused device(s) are for future expansion or use.

Note: Without the Orchestrator Ceph will not grab any available device during a replacement activity.
