Enabling SCSI Pass-Through on a RHV virtio-scsi direct lun can result in a non-redundant I/O path, resulting in errors inside the guest

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • When a RHV direct lun is configured as virtio-scsi with SCSI Pass-Through enabled, even though the lun is backed by multipath, a remote storage failure can result in I/O errors reported by the guest o/s.

  • Multipathing does not take affect, and the I/O error is passed through to the guest.

Environment

  • Red Hat Virtualization (RHV) 4.0, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.5
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) hosts 7.3, 7.4, 7.5, 7.6, 8.x
  • Direct Lun configured as virtio-scsi with Enable SCSI Pass-Through set (default, prior to RHV 4.4.5)
