Solution Verified - Updated -

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5

Issue

  • While installing software, yum fails with the following error message:

Missing Dependency: libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.11)(64bit)

Resolution

The file "libc.so.6" is provided by GLIBC_2.11 package, which is not available in RHEL5 channels. The first Red Hat Enterprise Linux version which includes this package is RHEL6.

Root Cause

The package updater was trying to fetch dependency from RHEL5 channels  and that's why it was landed to "Missing Dependency" issue.
