Plymouth loops and consumes high cpu when escaped on HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen10

Solution In Progress - Updated -

Issue

  • During boot, when the escape or down-arrow key is pressed during the plymouth boot screen, the logs of the current boot process will scroll continuously, but not exit, taking up CPU and slowing the boot process significantly.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
  • plymouth 0.8.9-0.32.20140113.el7.x86_64 or earlier
  • HPE Proliant DL380 Gen10
  • ProLiant Service Pack 2019.03.1
