A clustered service with an lvm resource fails to start with ""volume_list" not specified in lvm.conf" in a RHEL 5 or 6 High Availability cluster with rgmanager

Issue

  • Service with lvm resource fails to start with an error about the volume_list not being specified
Aug  4 17:40:54 node1 rgmanager[32606]: [lvm] * "volume_list" not specified in lvm.conf.
Aug  4 17:40:54 node1 rgmanager[25043]: start on lvm "myVG" returned 1 (generic error)
  • Have a service configured with storage and other resources, the service wont start correctly or fail over and references "improper setup" and no volume_list in the logs

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 5 (with the High Availability or Resilient Storage Add Ons)
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 6 (with the High Availability or Resilient Storage Add Ons)
  • A LVM resource in cluster.conf. Example:
<lvm lv_name="lvol1" name="home" vg_name="datavg"/>
