Unable to generate sosreport due to huge journals filling the disk space

sosreport does not finish due to huge size of journal and fails reporting
# sosreport . . . "No space left on device while collecting plugin data". -
How can the journal be handled, or journald has to be configured ?
- I had enough space to create sosreport before executing the command, but there is no spare space anymore on running sosreport.
- sosreport causes out of memory(OOM).
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
- sos-3.3-4.el7 through 3.5-7.el7_5
