USB 3.1 Gen2 devices only connect at 5Gbps

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.5
  • USB 3.1 Gen2

Issue

  • lsusb -t shows USB 3.1 Gen2 devices connecting at 5Gbps instead of 10Gbps

Resolution

This issue is under investigation and we expect to have an update soon.

Root Cause

This is different than the issue documented in USB 3.1 Gen2 speed does not scale beyond 5Gbps because the Root Hub is showing 10000M for the speed.

Diagnostic Steps

lsusb -t shows:

/:  Bus 04.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=xhci_hcd/2p, 10000M
    |__ Port 1: Dev 4, If 0, Class=Mass Storage, Driver=uas, 5000M
