Tomcat 5 installed on RHEL 5 fails to start

Issue

  • Issue with Tomcat 5 on RHEL 5.7. Tomcat does not start
  • In RHEL 5.7, installing tomcat 5 without the supplementary repository enabled, tomcat5 fails to start.
  • When installed with the supplementary repository enabled, tomcat5 starts up as expected.
  • The error shown in /var/log/tomcat5/catalina.out after a failed start:

Using CATALINA_HOME:   /usr/share/tomcat5
Using CATALINA_TMPDIR: /usr/share/tomcat5/temp
