Why does rhn-satellite-activate fail from one satellite to another?

Issue

  • rhn-satellite-activate gives this error :

    # rhn-satellite-activate --rhn-cert=/root/satellite.cert RHN_PARENT: master-satellite.example.com
ERROR: unhandled XMLRPC fault upon remote deactivation (reraising): <Fault -1: 'redstone.xmlrpc.XmlRpcFault: Could not find method deactivateSatellite in class class com.redhat.rhn.frontend.xmlrpc.satellite.SatelliteHandler'>

  • After syncing the RHN Satellite channel on our Satellite and registering the Slave Satellite on the master, we can't subscribe it to RHN Satellite channel. Is this expected?

Environment

  • RHN Satellite 5.3 and later
  • RHN Satellites in Master / Slave setup
