RHEL-7: kdump service fail to start if local or remote dump target is not mounted on the system.

Issue

  • kdump service failed with following error messages when remote dump target (NFS) is not mounted.
# kdumpctl start
Detected change(s) the following file(s):

  /etc/kdump.conf
Rebuilding /boot/initramfs-3.10.0-123.el7.x86_64kdump.img
Dump target my.server.com:/export/tmp is probably not mounted.
mkdumprd: failed to make kdump initrd
Starting kdump: [FAILED]
  • kdump service failed with following error messages when local dump target is not mounted.
