Why is maximum mount count a random value on new EXT3 or EXT4 filesystems?
Issue
When creating a brand new ext4 filesystem we can observe that the Maximum count value is not constant:
For example with two newly-created filesystems:
[root@localhost ~]# lvcreate -L0.25G -n lvtest1 test
[root@localhost ~]# lvcreate -L0.25G -n lvtest2 test
[root@localhost ~]# mkfs.ext4 /dev/test/lvtest1
[root@localhost ~]# mkfs.ext4 /dev/test/lvtest2
We can see different maximum mount counts:
[root@localhost ~]# tune2fs -l /dev/test/lvtest1 |grep "mount count"
Maximum mount count: 36
[root@localhost ~]# tune2fs -l /dev/test/lvtest2 |grep "mount count"
Maximum mount count: 24
Why is there always a difference?
