Red Hat I/O Usage Visualizer

Updated -

Red Hat I/O Usage Visualizer displays a visualization of the I/O device usage statistics captured by the sar utility.

To view the visualizations, upload the sar and lsblk files from a system. The tool generates six charts to illustrate various device usage metrics. The following values (see definitions for each using the man sar command) are included in the displayed charts:

  • tps
  • rd_sec/s
  • wr_sec/s
  • avgrq-sz
  • avgqu-sz
  • await

As a default, the tool only displays statistics for devices that have a mount point in lsblk. To view statistics for other devices, use the chooser to add the target device and click "Apply". Use the displayed buttons to display or hide any of the listed devices.

Nice tool. It does not accept the sar filename in the form of sarYYYYMMDD though. This filename is valid, it is used e. g. when HISTORY is longer than 30 days.

Hi Zdenek, Thanks for reporting this issue. I didn't know that the sar file can be named as sarYYYYMMDD, all the sar file under my test machine is sarDD, so I make a restriction of sar file name. I will change the sar file name restriction to be more wide as sar** to avoid the issue like it. Thanks, Jingjing

Hi Zdenek, Has changed, please check.

Very nice, useful tool. Thank you.

I kept getting "Please upload the correct sar file with the name sar*" when my sar file was named "sar04ora". It was generated from RHEL 7.3 The file was 1.26 MB. I also uploaded "lsblk.txt" (lsblk > lsblk.txt) correspondingly.

Not sure what should I do here to get the data anaylzed for visualization. Will appreciate any help/pointer.

Regards, Dharmesh.

Hi Dharmesh, Sorry about the delayed reply, I just came back from maternity leave. I've done some basic diagnosis, and found the root cause. My app isn't compatible with sar on rhel7.3. I'm working on it, and will let you know once it's fixed. Thanks, Jingjing

Hi Dharmesh,

On rhel7.3, the sar file may generate the time with foreign character '00时00分01秒' instead standard expression '00:00:01'. It's can be processed in the current app now.

While after I check your profile, your location seems in the US, and forgien character shouldn't trouble you. However I've also checked the file with name sar10ora, sar file size larger than 2M, and sar file on RHEL7.3, all of them works fine.

Please send me your sar and lsblk files to jshi@redhat.com if you still have this error.

Thanks, Jingjing

I am getting only rootvg file system report, not other disk. Using RHEL6.x.
