AD Integration Helper (Samba FS - winbind)
When a Red Hat Enterprise Linux system is being configured as a Samba FS server, Winbind is the best tool to be used for connecting the system to an Active Directory server. The AD Integration Helper helps with generating a Samba Winbind configuration.
This tool generates a script based on basic Active Directory server information supplied by the user. The generated script configures Samba, NSS, and PAM. Before running the script, ensure that the following conditions are met:
- The system time between the Domain Controller and RHEL server must be synchronized.
- /etc/resolv.conf is set to a DNS server that can resolve your Active Directory DNS zones
- The search domain is set to the Active Directory DNS domain
This application only generates a complete Samba configuration file for Winbind. To combine the application with existing Samba Shares and Printers, copy the original Shares and Printers sections of smb.conf to the new generated configuration file.
Note: When a RHEL system is being integrated with Windows or Identity Management domains for other purposes than Samba AD, please consult Windows Integration Guide to setup SSSD.

Thanks it was a great help
It's only here to help create basic functionality. I am sure it could be made much better, as people are looking for Winbind authentication, and probably with AD in full control of the objects. This does a user remap, creates databases to map SIDs to UID/GIDs, and not much more. There are many other moving parts, such as existing UIDs/GIDs to handle, as well as making sure Windows AD has what it needs. Given how old SAMBA is, and that it's still in use, it really says that someone should make a much better integration management solution for this type of task.
