Product Enhancement Advisory
Red Hat Insights patch analysis
Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
Updated OpenStack Telemetry packages that resolve various issues are now
available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform 6.0 (Juno).
Description
Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform provides the facilities
for building a private or public infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS)
cloud running on commonly available physical hardware. This advisory
includes packages for:
- OpenStack Telemetry service
OpenStack Telemetry (ceilometer) collects customer usage data for metering
purposes. Telemetry implements bus listener, push, and polling agents
for data collection. This data is stored in a database and presented via
the REST API. In addition, Telemetry’s extensible design means it can
be optionally extended to gather customized data sets.
With this release, the Telemetry service is now re-based to upstream
version 2014.2.1. The following list describes the different upstream
bugs fixed by this version:
- LP#1366189: mask_password doesn't handle non-ASCII characters
- LP#1381600: ceilometer-agent-ipmi fails on unparseable data
- LP#1388778: timeout should be added to http request in pollsters
- LP#1391517: compute_signature method failed if metadata keys contain
unicode
- LP#1395972: database.max_retries should be restored in
get_connection_from config function
- LP#1320430: failed parameter validation in pecan raises
HTTPInternalServerError
- LP#1369500: no user_metadata added in network samples data
- LP#1373356: when using QPID as the messaging backend, ceilometer
will get "message signature invalid" error.
- LP#1392326: ceilometer trusts notifications from keystone are not
processed
- LP#1395807: hyper-V Inspector's disk metrics cannot be cached
- LP#1396223: large value of period causes 500 error on statistics
queries
This update also features the following enhancements:
- The Telemetry service now features workload partitioning, which allows the
central agent to scale horizontally with each instance polling a
disjointed set of resources. To do this, the 'tooz' utility coordinates
group membership accross multiple central agents that share polling of
resources. (BZ#1127526)
- The Telemetry service can now poll for SNMP metrics in a generic way.
This allows the Telemetry service to gather additional SNMP metrics
without writing a new pollster for each new metric.
- The MongoDB back end can now persist notification payloads, which in turn
allows event processing for Telemetry services configured to use a
MongoDB back end. In previous releases, this functionality was only
available through the SQLAlchemy back end, which was not fully supported
in Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform.
- The Telemetry service now uses the newer oslo.messaging library for RPC,
thereby replacing the deprecated openstack.common.rpc library.
