Topic
OpenStack Block Storage packages for Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform
5.0 (Icehouse) for RHEL 6 are now available.
Description
Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform provides the facilities for building
a private or public infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) cloud running on commonly
available physical hardware. This advisory includes packages for:
- OpenStack Block Storage service ("Cinder").
- OpenStack Block Storage client ("python-cinderclient").
OpenStack Block Storage (cinder) manages block storage mounting and the
presentation of such mounted block storage to instances. The back-end physical
storage can consist of local disks, Fiber Channel, iSCSI, and/or NFS mounts
attached to Compute nodes. In addition, Block Storage supports volume backups,
and snapshots for temporary save and restore operations. Programmatic management
is available via the Block Storage service's API.
With this update, openstack-cinder is now re-based to upstream version 2014.1.1.
This re-base applies several fixes, including:
- Previously, when a user extended an existing Block Storage (cinder) volume,
the export iSCSI target was not updated to reflect the new size. As a result,
even though the underlying volume was extended, the instance could never see the
new size since the target remained unchanged.
Instead of updating the target, a change has been made to only export a volume
at the time of attachment. This means that a volume create followed by an extend
operation is now picked up when the instance attaches the volume, and therefore
the intended size can now be realized.
The extension of a volume that is already attached to an instance is a future
goal.(BZ1111685)
- In previous releases, it was possible to delete a volume's snapshot to prevent
the volume from being attached to an instance. This was because the commands
used for deleting a volume did not contain any commands to deactivate (before
snapshot deletion) and reactivate (after snapshot deletion) volumes. As such,
when deleting a volume's snapshot, it was possible for the volume to be left
with incorrect flags that would render it unattachable to an instance.
With this release, volume snapshot deletion now works with the right commands,
ensuring that volumes are deactivated and reactivated as expected.(BZ1111694)
These packages also fix other bugs found in the Red Hat Enterprise Linux
OpenStack Platform 4 release.
