RHEA-2009:0092 - Product Enhancement Advisory
Synopsis
new package: ktune
Type/Severity
Product Enhancement Advisory
Red Hat Insights patch analysis
Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
A new ktune package is now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.3.
Description
ktune sets several kernel tuning parameters to values suitable for certain
system profiles.
For this initial release the only profile provided is for large-memory
systems running disk and network-intensive applications.
ktune settings do not over-ride settings provided by /etc/sysctl.conf nor
those set on the kernel command line. Stopping the ktune service (via the
"service ktune stop" command) reverts any ktune settings without requiring
a system reboot.
Note: this new package has no relationship to the, now long-abandoned,
KDE-based guitar-tuning application also called ktune.
All Red Hat Enterprise Linux administrators interested in an easier-to-use
kernel tuning tool, especially those administering large-memory systems
running disk- and network-intensive applications, should install this new
package.
