Topic

Updated server spacewalk-proxy packages that fix two bugs are now available for
Red Hat Network Proxy 5.6.

Description

Red Hat Network Proxy provides a mechanism for caching content, such as package
updates from Red Hat or custom content created for an organization on an
internal, centrally located server.

This update fixes the following bugs:

  • In Red Hat Network Proxy 5.6, files that exceed a certain size limit are

written to the /tmp directory instead of holding them in memory, which allows
Proxy to serve files that are larger than the memory size. However, if the file
was larger than the available space in /tmp, an error occurred. This update
allows the user to configure the maximum file size to hold in memory so that
they can customize this behavior for their environment. The default is to hold
files smaller than 1GB entirely in memory. To adjust this behavior, set the
proxy.max_mem_file_size=<number_of_bytes> parameter in the /etc/rhn/rhn.conf
file. (BZ#1150110)

  • In Red Hat Network Proxy 5.6, files that exceed a certain size limit are

written to the /tmp directory instead of holding them in memory, which allows
Proxy to serve files that are larger than the memory size. However, writing
large files to /tmp takes longer than holding them in memory, so if the files
were too large or the connection too slow, the client's connection timed out
when using Proxy 5.6 as opposed to Proxy 5.5. This update allows the user to
configure the maximum file size to hold in memory so that they can customize
this behavior for their environment. This update also sets a default size of 1GB
before files are written to /tmp so that there is no change in speed for most
users when compared with Proxy 5.5. (BZ#1156152)

All users of Red Hat Network Proxy are advised to upgrade to these updated
packages, which fix these bugs.
