Topic

Updated rsync packages that fix one bug are now available for Red Hat Enterprise
Linux 5.

Description

The rsync tool is used to copy and synchronize files locally or across a
network. The rsync works very fast because it uses delta encoding and sends just
differences in files instead of whole files. The rsync is also used as powerful
mirroring tool.

This update fixes the following bug:

  • After the latest rsync packages rebase, there was a behavioural

incompatibility in the different versions of the rsync utility. The rebased
rsync removed extended attributes of files incorrectly, producing an error
message and returning nonzero return code, which confused the users. With this
update, rsync produces mentioned error message only in the verbose mode and
returns "zero" which corresponds to behaviour of previously shipped
versions of rsync. (BZ#1107941)

Users of rsync are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which fix this
bug.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata relevant
to your system have been applied.

This update is available via the Red Hat Network. Details on how to use the Red
Hat Network to apply this update are available at
