Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
Updated preupgrade-assistant packages that fix several bugs are now available
for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.
Description
The Preupgrade Assistant tool is a diagnostics utility which assesses the system
for possible in-place upgrade limitations and provides a report with the
analysis results. It is based on a module system, with each module performing a
separate test, checking for package removals, incompatible obsoletes, changes in
libraries, names changes, or deficiencies in the compatibilities of some
configuration files. Data gathered by the Preupgrade Assistant can be used for
cloning the system. It also provides post-upgrade scripts to finish more complex
problems after an in-place upgrade. The Preupgrade Assistant tool is a
prerequisite for completing a successful in-place upgrade to the next major
version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
This update fixes the following bugs:
- Previously, the preupgrade-assistant packages included the OpenSCAP script
check engine (SCE) in the package build. After this update, the oscap-engine-sce
package is part of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux optional channel and the
Preupgrade Assistant no longer includes it. (BZ#1113887)
- This update adds the preupgrade-assistant-tools package to the Preupgrade
Assistant. It is now possible to build third party content using the Python
modules included in the preupgrade-assistant-tools. (BZ#1113890)
- Previously, running the Preupgrade Assistant on a system registered with Red
Hat Satellite could result in an error which was irrelevant for
subscribers of the Satellite channel. This update implements a check in the
Preupgrade Assistant which verifies the channel the system is subscribed to.
As a result, the displayed upgrade risks and solution suggestions are always
relevant to the channel the system is subscribed to. (BZ#1099213)
- Previously, the Preupgrade Assistant content INI file did not provide enough
details regarding the module. After this update, the description has been
extended to include more information about the module and also the result.
(BZ#1078334)
All users who require preupgrade-assistant are advised to install these new
packages. Note that the preupgrade-assistant packages require installing the
preupgrade-assistant-contents package which contains the check scripts used by
the preupgrade-assistant.
