Topic

Updated gfs2-utils packages that fix two bugs are now available for Red Hat
Enterprise Linux 5.

Description

The gfs2-utils packages contain utilities for creating, checking, modifying, and
correcting any inconsistencies in GFS2 file systems.

This update fixes the following bugs:

  • Prior to this update, system logs did not log important context of system

events concerning the running fsck.gfs2 utility. Consequently, users and system
administrators had difficulties examining the circumstances under which a
problem occurred. With this update, fsck.gfs2 adds an informative message to the
system logs on its start and exit, which helps in further debugging processes
and administrative actions. (BZ#1099592)

  • Previously, GFS2 metadata dumps returned by the "gfs2_edit savemeta" command

held no information about the time at which they were created. Without this
information, users and system administrators could not easily find out when the
GFS2 metadata was saved in relation to file system checks. With this update,
"gfs2_edit savemeta" adds a header to the metadata file containing a time stamp
relating to the creation of the file. (BZ#1100803)

Users of gfs2-utils are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which fix
these bugs.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously-released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.

This update is available via the Red Hat Network. Details on how to
use the Red Hat Network to apply this update are available at
