Synopsis

Red Hat Network Satellite server bug fix and enhancement update

Type/Severity

Bug Fix Advisory

Topic

Updated Red Hat Network Satellite server packages that fix several bugs and add
various enhancements are now available for Red Hat Network Satellite 5.5.

Description

Red Hat Network Satellite is a systems management tool for Linux-based
infrastructures. It allows for provisioning, monitoring, and remote management
of multiple Linux deployments with a single, centralized tool.

Bug fixes:

  • RHN Satellite incorrectly displayed the Hong Kong Time (HKT) when it was set
to use the "(GMT+0800) Australia (Western)" time zone. With this update, RHN
Satellite uses the Australian Western Standard Time (AWST) in this case.
    (BZ#664428)
  • When using the Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST), RHN Satellite only
allowed setting of the "(GMT+1000) Australia (Eastern)" time zone. This update
allows setting of "(GMT+1000) Australia (Eastern Standard)" and "(GMT+1000)
Australia (Eastern Daylight)" time zones. (BZ#696956)
  • RHN Satellite incorrectly applied logging for non-Bash interpreters in the
kickstart pre-installation and post-installation scripts for Red Hat Enterprise
Linux 5. With this update, logging is applied only for the Bash interpreter.
    (BZ#835597)
  • When cloning a channel using the channel.software.clone API or the
spacewalk-clone-by-date command, the GPG information was not cloned. With this
update, the GPG information is preserved. (BZ#851942)
  • If two channel metadata creation jobs attempted to generate a metadata XML
file for the same package simultaneously, inconsistency in the "Provides", or
"Conflicts", or "Requires" repodata information could occur. Consequently, the
incorrect channel metadata was stored in the database XML cache and was reused
for future repodata generation, which led to installation failures. Any affected
RHN Satellite has to clear the database XML cache and regenerate the channel
metadata to recover from this problem. The channel metadata are now generated
    correctly. (BZ#860881)
  • When subscribing systems to configuration channels using the System Set
Manager (SSM), all systems were subscribed to the same configuration channel
set, which was the union of all systems' configuration channels. With this
update, each system is correctly subscribed only to the selected configuration
    channel set. (BZ#868886)
  • The errata.findByCve API failed with the
java.util.ConcurrentModificationException exception. With this update, the
errata.findByCve API lists errata as expected. (BZ#874273)
  • When cloning RHN software channels using the Java API, the product name
attribute was not preserved in the channel clone. With this update, channel
clones are created as expected. (BZ#879443)
  • Taskomatic was previously unable to re-create the content of the
/var/lib/rhn/kickstarts/wizzard directory if it was deleted. Now, taskomatic
    re-creates kickstart files. (BZ#881830)
  • RHN Satellite 5.5 documentation was missing several files. With this update,
the documentation has been rebuilt with the correct file set. (BZ#886254)
  • RHN Satellite did not handle pagination of the "Custom System Info Keys" pages
so that navigation between these pages resulted in a page request error. Now,
the users can display the "Custom System Info Keys" pages as expected.
    (BZ#890333)
  • RHN Satellite did not correctly handle displaying of upgradable packages for
Solaris systems. Now, RHN Satellite correctly shows installed and upgradable
    package lists. (BZ#894213)

Enhancements:

  • The user can now delete archived actions from the Archived Actions page in the
    Schedule tab. (BZ#198887)
  • The SAST (South African Standard Time) time zone has been added to the Red Hat
Network Satellite time zone list. (BZ#847986)
  • This update introduces the new md5_crypt_rootpw option, which allows users
using other than MD5 password hash algorithms with the
    kickstart.profile.setAdvancedOptions API. (BZ#879332)
  • After an RHN Satellite certificate expired, the user is now instructed to
visit a Customer Portal page with the instructions on how to request or generate
    a new certificate. (BZ#903718)

All users of spacewalk are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which
fix these bugs and add these enhancements.

Solution

Application of this errata involves updating the database schema.

For general instructions on database schema upgrade, consult the
following document first: https://access.redhat.com/knowledge/articles/273633

Before applying this update, make sure all previously-released errata
relevant to your system have been applied. To apply this erratum, take
the following steps:

  • Extend the temporary database tablespace if needed.

Application of this errata may potentially require a lot of space
in the temporary tablespace. Consult the following document for further
details: https://access.redhat.com/knowledge/articles/290263

  • Shut down Red Hat Network Satellite by running the following as
    root:

rhn-satellite stop

  • Backup the Oracle database. For embedded database variants, run:

su - oracle
db-control backup /path/to/the/backup

For an external database, consult your database administrator.

  • Upgrade the errata packages available via Red Hat Network. Details
on how to use Red Hat Network to apply this update are available
    at https://access.redhat.com/knowledge/articles/11258
  • Start the Oracle database (embedded database variants only):

service oracle start

  • Update the database schema using the spacewalk-schema-upgrade
command. To do so, run as root:

spacewalk-schema-upgrade

This process will update your database schema to the latest version.
The spacewalk-schema-upgrade command will inform you about the
results of the upgrade and exact locations of schema upgrade log
files.

  • Restart Red Hat Network Satellite by running the following as root:

service oracle stop (embedded database variants only)
rhn-satellite start

If you are already affected by the corrupted yum repodata problem
described in BZ#860881, then you will have to take additional steps to
resolve the issue. See
https://access.redhat.com/knowledge/solutions/268803 for more information.
