Topic
An updated system-config-samba package that fixes various bugs is now
available.
Description
The system-config-samba package provides system-config-samba, a graphical
user interface for creating, modifying, and deleting Samba shares.
This updated package fixes the following bugs:
- in certain situations, system-config-samba added "valid users = None" to
Samba shares in "smb.conf", when this parameter should have been empty or
omitted. In these situations, Samba treated "None" as a valid user, which
may have caused access problems.
- the "smbpasswd" file was read and written to directly, instead of using
the "pdbedit" tool. As such, it was not possible to use "tdbsam" or LDAP
back-ends. This updated package adds support to system-config-samba for
"tdbsam" and LDAP back-ends.
- it was not possible to use system-config-samba to manage users. Existing
users were not displayed in the user list. When a user was added via
system-config-samba, the user was added to the "smbusers" file, but was
not shown in the user list in system-config-samba. Users are now correctly
displayed in system-config-samba.
Note: when upgrading to this updated package, a broken post-uninstall
script in the previous versions will delete compiled Python files (.pyc)
from this new version, due to the order in which RPM package scripts are
executed. As a consequence, after upgrading to this package, the "rpm -V
system-config-samba" command will fail. While the script is fixed in this
version, it is only effective for subsequent updates. To workaround this
problem and make the package verify correctly, as the root user, uninstall
the package, and install it again:
1. yum remove system-config-samba
2. yum install system-config-samba
Users of system-config-samba are advised to upgrade to this updated
package, which resolves these issues.
