RHBA-2008:0844 - Bug Fix Advisory
Synopsis
patch bug fix update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Red Hat Insights patch analysis
Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
An updated patch package that fixes a bug is now available.
Description
The patch package is used to apply changes, such as those from diff files,
to text files.
When a patch is applied to a file, a back up copy is made, which has
".orig" appended to the original file's file name. When applying more than
one patch at a time to a file, the back up copy of the file contained the
contents of the file immediately before applying the most recent change,
instead of the contents of the file before applying any changes.
Users of patch are advised to upgrade to this updated package, which
resolves this issue.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure that all previously-released
errata relevant to your system have been applied.
This update is available via Red Hat Network. Details on how to use
the Red Hat Network to apply this update are available at
