Topic
Updated rhn-client-tools packages that fix several bugs and add
enhancements are now available.
Description
Red Hat Network Client Tools provide programs and libraries that allow your
system to receive software updates from the Red Hat Network (RHN).
These updated packages fix the following bugs:
- rhn_register saved proxy server information in
"/etc/sysconfig/rhn/up2date", even when such a proxy server could not be
connected to. In these updated packages, rhn_register only saves proxy
information after a successful connection.
- minor spelling mistakes in rhn-client-tools have been resolved.
- after installing an RHN Satellite Server SSL certificate, when running
the rhn_register GUI and selecting that you had access to an RHN Satellite
Server, rhn_register did not automatically use the previously installed
SSL certificate. In these updated packages, rhn_register uses the correct
certificate when registering to a server.
- rhn_register registered certain systems with a CPU architecture type of
"ia32e". In these updated packages, these systems are now saved as the
correct CPU architecture, "x86_64".
- the rhn_register GUI used asterisk characters, instead of a unicode
circle characters, for substitutes in the password entry field.
- entering a wrong password in the rhn_register GUI caused a misleading
"That user account and password is not valid" message. An intuitive error
message is now provided.
- the rhn_register GUI has been fixed to remove the plural "Examples" from
the "Login Information" section.
- running "rhnreg_ks --help" displayed an incorrect description, "Specify a
subscription number to use", for the "--subscription" option. In these
updated packages, this has been replaced with the correct description,
"Specify an installation number to use".
- running "LANG=kn_IN rhn_register" did not display localized content. Now,
the Kannada (kn_IN) translations are complete.
- when using an 800x600 resolution, clicking the expander arrow in the
rhn_register GUI on the page prompting for an installation number caused
the back and submit buttons to disappear off of the screen. In these
updated packages, resizing works correctly when using an 800x600
resolution.
- the "rhn_register" TUI had a required "*" prefix next to "Company Name",
even though a company name is not required.
- in certain situations, the rhn_register TUI back button caused an
"Invalid ORG_ID requested" error.
- a traceback, which may have occurred when users refused to register with
RHN during firstboot, has been resolved.
- after upgrading to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.1, using "rhn_register" to
re-register against an RHN Satellite Server failed. A traceback occurred,
and an "exceptions.TypeError: iterable argument required" error was logged
to "/var/log/up2date".
- yum-rhn-plugin did not update "loginInfo", and used this information
until it expired. If new channels were added, yum was unable to find them
until "loginInfo" expired. In these updated packages, "loginInfo" is
updated when channel settings change, which resolves this issue.
As well, these updated packages add the following enhancements:
- the rhn_register GUI and shell-based interface now have Extended Update
Support (EUS) support, and a "Change Channel" screen to select the desired
channel.
- support for EUS has been added to "rhnreg_ks", by using the
"--use-eus-channel" option.
- documentation for the "hostedWhitelist" configuration option has been
added.
Users of rhn-client-tools are advised to upgrade to these updated packages,
which resolve these issues and add these enhancements.
