Synopsis
nss_ldap bug fix update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Red Hat Insights patch analysis
Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
An updated nss_ldap package that fixes various bugs is now available.
Description
This package includes two LDAP access clients: nss_ldap and pam_ldap.
Nss_ldap is a set of C library extensions that allow X.500 and LDAP
directory servers to be used as a primary source of aliases, ethers,
groups, hosts, networks, protocol, users, RPCs, services, and shadow
passwords (instead of or in addition to using flat files or NIS).
Pam_ldap is a module for Linux-PAM that supports password changes, V2
clients, Netscape's SSL, ypldapd, Netscape Directory Server password
policies, access authorization, and crypted hashes.
These updates contains backported fixes for an off-by-one error in
nss_ldap's handling of group records and an error in the handling of a
particular server error in pam_ldap.
When parsing the search result for a group entry which contains many
members, nss_ldap could overrun an internal buffer. This update contains a
backported fix for this issue.
When authenticating a user, if the directory server returned a policy
response which indicated that the user's password had just been reset, and
should immediately be changed, pam_ldap would erroneously deny access to
the user. This update contains a backported fix for this issue.
Users are advised to upgrade to this updated nss_ldap package, which
resolves these issues.
