Red Hat Insights patch analysis
Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
Updated kernel-utils packages that fix various bugs are now available.
Description
The kernel-utils package contains several utilities that can be used to
control the kernel or a system's hardware.
Several issues have been addressed in this update:
- Previously, the irqbalance daemon did not check whether it was already
running in the init script.
- The readahead program no longer references an incorrect path to libz.
- A problem in which udev took too long to create a microcode node has been
corrected.
- The microcode_ctl program has been updated to include new CPU microcode
data for Intel microprocessors.
- In some circumstances, cpuspeed would print a FATAL error at startup,
when there wasn't actually a problem.
Users of kernel-utils should upgrade to these updated packages, which
resolve these issues.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
This update is available via Red Hat Network. To use Red Hat Network,
launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command:
up2date
This will start an interactive process that will result in the appropriate
RPMs being upgraded on your system.
