Topic

An updated xinetd package that addresses two bugs is now available.

Description

Xinetd is a secure replacement for inetd, the Internet services daemon.
Xinetd provides access control for all services based on the address of the
remote host and/or on time of access and can prevent denial-of-access
attacks. Each service has its own specific configuration file for Xinetd;
the files are located in the /etc/xinetd.d directory.

Under some circumstances, xinetd confused the file descriptor used for
logging with the descriptors to be passed to the new server. This resulted
in the server process being unable communicate with the client. This
updated package contains a backported fix from upstream.

On certain platforms, xinetd entered an infinite loop when a "wait=yes"
server exited.

All users of xinetd should upgrade to this updated package, which resolves
these isues.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.

This update is available via Red Hat Network. To use Red Hat Network,
launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command:

up2date

This will start an interactive process that will result in the appropriate
RPMs being upgraded on your system.
