RHBA-2004:459 - Bug Fix Advisory
Synopsis
Updated fileutils package
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Topic
An updated fileutils package that fixes an NFS performance issue is now
available.
Description
The fileutils package contains a number of utilities for manipulating
files, such as cp, dd, mv, and ls.
A missed optimization caused the fsstat() system call to be invoked more
than necessary. For NFS file systems, this can cause speed problems when
using the cp or dd utilities. An optimization has been applied so that the
system call is only invoked when needed.
All users of fileutils should upgrade to this updated package, which resolves
this issue.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure that all previously-released
errata relevant to your system have been applied. Use Red Hat
