RHBA-2004:126 - Bug Fix Advisory
Synopsis
Updated gdb package includes bug fixes, updated IA64 libunwind package
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Topic
An updated gdb package that includes several bug fixes is now available.
Description
GDB is a debugger for C, C++, and other programming languages.
This gdb package is based on a new snapshot from the Free Software
Foundation mainline, and it is synchronized to the 6.1 gdb branch. It
contains several bug fixes and enhancements, including:
- support for the latest version of libunwind on the ia64
- improved bi-arch support for the ppc64-ppc32, s390-s390x, i386-x86_64,
- use of Dwarf-2 unwind information for s390/s390x
- improved C++ namespaces support
- future/pending breakpoints.
- support for debugging of large corefiles (greater than 2G)
This updated package also contains the latest version of libunwind for the
IA64 architecture.
Users of GDB should upgrade to these updated packages, which resolve these
issues.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
On the PPC64 architecture, make sure that the gdb64 rpm is not installed:
rpm -q gdb64
to get the exact filename and then
rpm -e [filename]
To update all RPMs for your particular architecture, run:
rpm -Fvh [filenames]
where [filenames] is a list of the RPMs you wish to upgrade. Only those
RPMs which are currently installed will be updated. Those RPMs which are
not installed but included in the list will not be updated. Note that you
can also use wildcards (*.rpm) if your current directory *only* contains the
desired RPMs.
Please note that this update is also available via Red Hat Network. Many
people find this an easier way to apply updates. To use Red Hat Network,
launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command:
up2date
This will start an interactive process that will result in the appropriate
RPMs being upgraded on your system.
If up2date fails to connect to Red Hat Network due to SSL
Certificate Errors, you need to install a version of the
up2date client with an updated certificate. The latest version of
up2date is available from the Red Hat FTP site and may also be
downloaded directly from the RHN website:
