Foglight is a systems monitoring platform that is typically used for monitoring databases and applications. It has agents that collect data and send it to the Foglight server. The Foglight server evaluates the data using rules, detects events and sends notification, and retains the data in a database for historical analysis and reporting. The Foglight console is used for problem diagnosis and for Foglight administration. The Foglight platform is extended using "cartridges". A cartridge consists of an agent (or sometimes multiple agents), plus predefined rules and UI views. A cartridge adds the domain-specific functionality, for example Oracle database monitoring functionality. Foglight cartridges cover Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, Sybase, IBM DB2, MySAP ERP, Oracle E-Business, PeopleSoft, Siebel, BEA WebLogic, WebSphere, Oracle AS, JBoss, and Apache Tomcat. Foglight also includes a core set of agents for monitoring of the Operating System, Network, SNMP, and OS files and processes. Foglight has cartridges for Foglight Experience Monitor and Foglight Transaction Recorder. Foglight Experience Monitor monitors application response time for Web transactions
