OpenDDS is an open source, C++ implementation of the OMG specification for real-time data distribution services (DDS). OpenDDS provides high performance anonymous publish and subscribe services(also called data centric publish and subscribe or DCPS).
OpenDDS is multi-platform and runs across most major OSs including RTOSs. OpenDDS uses the ACE abstraction layer, itself a high performance typesafe socket level network programming library.

The DDS paradigm is perfect for systems that require large quantities of data to be sent and read by many systems. Such systems are sonar, radar, battlefield management, shop floor control, traffic management, launch systems, network management, market data distribution etc.
