Le precedenti versioni di Red Hat Enterprise Linux utilizzavano tgtd per il supporto del target iSCSI e LIO, il target del kernel di Linux, solo per target Fibre-Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) tramite il pacchetto fcoe-target-utils.
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 utilizza ora il sottosistema target del kernel LIO per le infrastrutture di archiviazione FCoE, iSCSI, iSER (Mellanox InfiniBand) e SRP (Mellanox InfiniBand). È possibile gestire tutte le infrastrutture con lo strumento targetcli.
