1.2. A Three-Tier LVS Configuration

Figura 1.2, «A Three-Tier LVS Configuration» shows a typical three-tier LVS topology. In this example, the active LVS router routes the requests from the Internet to the pool of real servers. Each of the real servers then accesses a shared data source over the network.

Questa configurazione è ideale per server FTP molto occupati, dove i dati accessibili vengono conservati in un server 'highly available' centrale, e disponibili ad ogni real server tramite una directory NFS esportata o condivisione Samba. Questa topologia è consigliata per siti web che accedono ad un database 'highly available' centrale per le loro transazioni. Altresì, utilizzando una configurazione active-active con Red Hat Cluster Manager, gli amministratori possono configurare un cluster high-availability, per servire entrambi i ruoli simultaneamente.
Il terzo livello negli esempi sopra riportati, non è obbligato ad utilizzare Red Hat Cluster Manager, ma se non utilizza una soluzione highly available, causerà un single point of failure critico.
