The following new features and enhancements have been added to Red Hat Satellite 5.7:
Authentication through Identity Management (IdM) Servers - Red Hat Satellite 5.7 now contains a tool called
spacewalk-setup-ipa-authentication, which configures your Satellite server to use an IdM/IPA server for authenticating users. See the Red Hat Satellite 5.7 Installation Guide for instructions for setting IdM authentication.
FIPS 140-2 support - The Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 is a U.S. government security standard used to accredit cryptographic modules. This FIPS standard is enabled at an operating system level. Red Hat Satellite now uses the SHA-256 hashing method instead of MD5 to support the FIPS 140-2 standard. If you aim to upgrade from a non-FIPS Satellite server to FIPS-compliant Satellite 5.7 server, some additional configuration is required prior to enabling FIPS on the Satellite server. This involves updating user passwords and client certificates. See the upgrade instructions in the Red Hat Satellite 5.7 Installation Guide for configuration prior to enabling FIPS.
SSL support for Managed and External Database connections - Red Hat Satellite 5.7 now supports secure database communication in federated environments, such as Managed Database and External Database Satellite environments. Enhanced Reporting in a Hosted Virtual Machine - Red Hat Satellite 5.7 now supports running a virtual machine on the Satellite server to host the Subscription Asset Manager server. See the Red Hat Satellite 5.7 Installation Guide for basic setup instructions.
Power Management - Red Hat Satellite 5.7 provides new features to control a client's power functions, such as Power On, Power Off, and Reboot. Clients require an IPMI interface for these function. See the system management instructions in the Red Hat Satellite 5.7 Getting Started Guide for configuration instructions.
Action Chaining - Red Hat Satellite 5.7 provides the ability to schedule a sequence of operations for systems.
New Client Architecture Support - Red Hat Satellite 5.7 now supports clients running on Power LE architectures.
Proxy Precaching - Red Hat Satellite 5.7 Proxy Server provides the ability to pre-cache or mirror RPMS to disk.
New User Interface - Red Hat Satellite 5.7 has a new UI style. Note that the overall menu structure and core operation of Satellite has not changed.
New API tool - Red Hat Satellite 5.7 now provides the
spacecmd command line tool that interfaces with a major subset of the Satellite 5.7 APIs.
Read-only API access - Red Hat Satellite 5.7 now supports API access using a read-only user.
Enhancements to spacewalk-clone-by-date - The
spacewalk-clone-by-date tool has been enhanced and now includes:
Ability to pass option
--errata to state specific errata or erratum to clone, versus a stated date.
Ability to add specific errata with dependencies to cloned channel (BZ#1015963
Ability to specify channel name, summary, and description for channels being created at the time of clone.
Ability to make spacewalk-clone-by-date able to specify channel name, summary, and description (BZ#830609
