6.2. Creating a Striped Logical Volume

This example creates an LVM striped logical volume called striped_logical_volume that stripes data across the disks at /dev/sda1, /dev/sdb1, and /dev/sdc1.

6.2.1. Creating the Physical Volumes

Label the disks you will use in the volume groups as LVM physical volumes.


This command destroys any data on /dev/sda1, /dev/sdb1, and /dev/sdc1.
# pvcreate /dev/sda1 /dev/sdb1 /dev/sdc1
  Physical volume "/dev/sda1" successfully created
  Physical volume "/dev/sdb1" successfully created
  Physical volume "/dev/sdc1" successfully created

6.2.2. Creating the Volume Group

The following command creates the volume group volgroup01.
# vgcreate volgroup01 /dev/sda1 /dev/sdb1 /dev/sdc1
  Volume group "volgroup01" successfully created
You can use the vgs command to display the attributes of the new volume group.
# vgs
  VG                #PV #LV #SN Attr   VSize  VFree
  volgroup01          3   0   0 wz--n- 51.45G 51.45G

6.2.3. Creating the Logical Volume

The following command creates the striped logical volume striped_logical_volume from the volume group volgroup01. This example creates a logical volume that is 2 gigabytes in size, with three stripes and a stripe size of 4 kilobytes.
# lvcreate -i3 -I4 -L2G -nstriped_logical_volume volgroup01
  Rounding size (512 extents) up to stripe boundary size (513 extents)
  Logical volume "striped_logical_volume" created

6.2.4. Creating the File System

The following command creates a GFS file system on the logical volume.
#  gfs_mkfs -plock_nolock -j 1 /dev/volgroup01/striped_logical_volume
This will destroy any data on /dev/volgroup01/striped_logical_volume.
