5.6. Managing Bricks

Brick is the basic unit of storage, represented by an export directory on a server in the storage cluster. You can expand or shrink your cluster by adding new bricks or deleting bricks.

Note

You need to add at least one brick to a distributed volume, multiples of two bricks to replicated volumes, multiples of four bricks to striped volumes when expanding your storage space.

5.6.1. Adding Bricks

You can expand a volume by adding new bricks to an existing volume.
To add a brick:
  1. Click the Volumes tab.
    A list of volumes displays.
  2. Select the volume to add new bricks. Click the Bricks tab from the Details pane.
    The Bricks tab displays a list of bricks of the selected volume.
  3. Click Add Bricks to add new bricks. The Add Bricks dialog box displays.

  4. Click OK.
    The new bricks are added to the volume and the bricks displays in the Bricks tab.
