3.3. Installing the Self-Hosted Engine
Install a Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization environment that takes advantage of the self-hosted engine feature, in which the engine is installed on a virtual machine within the environment itself.
Prerequisites:
Ensure that you have completed the following prerequisites:
- You must have a freshly installed Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.5, 6.6, 6.7, or 7 system and have subscribed it to the required entitlements.
- You must have prepared either CD-ROM, disk, or PXE installation media for the Manger operating system installation. The physical CD-ROM drive is not supported. To use the CD-ROM option, you must have an ISO file available. For the disk option, you can download the RHEV-M Virtual Appliance for the Manager installation. The RHEV-M Virtual Appliance can be downloaded at https://rhn.redhat.com/rhn/software/channel/downloads/Download.do?cid=24821. Note down the full path to the installation media.
- You must have prepared either NFS or iSCSI storage for your self-hosted engine environment. For more information on preparing storage for your deployment, see the Storage chapter of the Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Administration Guide.
- You must have a fully qualified domain name prepared for your Manager. Forward and reverse lookup records must both be set in the DNS.
- If you are using the RHEV-M Virtual Appliance, the
/tmpdirectory must be at least 50 GB.
Procedure 3.2. Installing the Self-Hosted Engine
- Run the following command to ensure that the most up-to-date versions of all installed packages are in use:
# yum update
- Run the following command to install the ovirt-hosted-engine-setup package and dependencies:
# yum install ovirt-hosted-engine-setup
You have installed the ovirt-hosted-engine-setup package and are ready to configure the self-hosted engine.
