2.2. Installing the OpenJDK on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5

Important

The following commands must be run as root.

Procedure 2.2. Installing the OpenJDK on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5

  1. Subscribe to the base channel

    The OpenJDK is available in Red Hat Enterprise Linux's base channel. This channel should be accessible by default.
  2. Install the Package

    To install the OpenJDK package, input this command:
    [localhost]# yum install java-1.6.0-openjdk-devel
  3. Check that it is the system's default Java Development Kit

    To ensure that the intended JDK is set as the system default, run the alternatives command as described in Section 2.3, “Setting the Default JDK with the alternatives Utility”.
