Can not update grub

I have a Realforce keyboard and it is not being detected.
(If I manually edit grub and add the line, the keyboard works fine)
I add the following command to /etc/default/grub

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="usbcore.quirks=0853:0111:gki"

I can use the keyboard in the boot menu but as soon as I select redhat, it stops working

/proc/cmdline does not show the command but in

/boot/grub2/grub.cfg
I can see the set kernelopts with the usbcore.quirks command

I don't know if it is an issue but I also have another drive which adds a few extra menu entries.

Any help appreciated.
