nic

Hi,
If i like to check if a nic is connected to switch i use tcpdump.
If i use instead in ifcfg-eth0 file BOTPROTO=dhcp then ifdown eth0 and then ifup eth0 and i receive nothing can i say that eth0 is not connected to switch?
